A day in the life: Engineer at RAW Idea

The alarm goes off at 07:00. The day starts calmly, with breakfast before hopping on the bike to the office. Once inside, we briefly catch up while looking at a print that has just finished. A new batch of printed waste bins is ready to be removed from the print bed. The printer has been running through the night while we slept and it’s still a satisfying sight every morning.

Starting the day in the print environment

With our first coffee, we head to the computer to prepare the robot cell for the next print. This includes:

  • Checking the nozzle

  • Refilling material

  • Reviewing the print settings

Once everything is set, the print is started and we return to the office, where the music is already playing and the workday properly begins.

Focus on engineering and detail

A large part of the day revolves around coordination and precision. We discuss the key points of focus:

  • The correct layer height for a specific project

  • The best way to attach legs to a new chair design

  • Who calculates the duration of the next print

  • Whether the newest product has already been sold via the webstore

These details determine the efficiency and consistency of our production process.

From meetings to 3D modelling

After lunch, the afternoon fills up with a mix of communication and hands-on work: A meeting, a call with a supplier, a dozen emails and a focused block of 3D modelling. Towards the end of the day, we review the planning for tomorrow.

Right on schedule, the printer finishes its job. Today, a chair has been printed. The robot will remain switched off overnight, as maintenance is planned for early the next morning.

Wrapping up the day

We close the door behind us and get back on our bikes. A productive day at RAW Idea, where engineering, teamwork and attention to detail come together. Ready for the next one.
