A friendship between Japan and Netherlands
Rotterdam, October 28, 2024 – RAW Idea, a leader in large-scale additive manufacturing, is excited to announce a new franchise with Universal Cruises. This strategic collaboration marks a major step in RAW Idea’s international expansion, bringing cutting-edge 3D printing technology to Japan's thriving industrial market. Beyond a business agreement, this partnership represents a unique friendship and cultural exchange between Japan and the Netherlands.
This franchise is a new chapter in RAW Idea’s journey, that’s laying a foundation for global growth and collaboration in additive manufacturing.
The new partnership is more than a business expansion; it’s a mission to empower Japan’s designers and businesses with access to advanced 3D printing technology. Through this franchise model, Universal Cruises can bring their designs to life with the support of RAW Idea’s expertise, transforming concepts into functional, high-quality products. By introducing this technology, RAW Idea aims to spark new possibilities in Japan’s manufacturing landscape, inspiring innovation that celebrates and reflects the country’s unique cultural identity.
Japan’s emerging market for large-scale 3D Printing
Japan’s 3D printing industry is evolving rapidly, particularly in automotive, aerospace, and electronics sectors where sustainable, high-quality production is prioritised. As Japan adopts environmentally friendly and efficient manufacturing technologies, RAW Idea’s entry into the market aligns perfectly with its mission to offer low-waste, innovative solutions. This expansion allows RAW Idea and Universal Cruises to meet the growing demand for advanced manufacturing options, boosting design innovation and efficiency within Japan’s industrial landscape.
A Partnership rooted in friendship and shared values
This partnership transcends traditional business—it’s a testament to the mutual respect, shared values, and commitment to innovation between RAW Idea and Universal Cruises.
RAW Idea, known for its expertise in large-scale 3D printing, has developed Tanaruz boats as its flagship product: watercraft that are easy to maintain and possible to customise. Tanaruz boats are powered by an electric motor and can be featured with solar panels.
Earlier this year, RAW Idea delivered a 3D-printed Tanaruz boat to Osaka, marking the beginning of this collaboration. At the World Expo Osaka 2025, the company will feature a fleet of Tanaruz boats as water taxis, highlighting Dutch ingenuity in sustainable watercraft and demonstrating the possibilities of 3D-printed transportation on a global stage. Universal Cruises will also have a hydrogen-powered ship docked at its berth, serving as an outdoor pavilion.
RAW Idea’s ongoing collaboration with Universal Cruises extends beyond the Tanaruz boats, encompassing large-scale 3D-printed products and a variety of joint projects. Together, the companies aim to bridge the cultures of Japan and the Netherlands through shared growth and innovative achievements.
